Oils, How to use

Essential oils have a wider variety of uses.
* You can use them aromatically through a diffuser or you can simply open the bottle and smell from the bottle. The aromas let off during use of the diffuser or smelling from the bottle can elicit powerful physiologic, mental, and emotional responses. To get an even bigger direct inhalation place one drop on your hands, rub together and cup your hands around the nose and mouth and breath in. Diffusing oils into a room is very beneficial for affecting someones mood, killing airborne pathogens, and changing the aroma of a space. My absolute favorite thing is using a diffuser to either uplift my mood or to help me get over a cold. Essential oils can also be added to water or alcohol in a spray bottle, (preferably glass). The mixture can then be sprayed in the air, on surfaces, or on the body, this makes a great air freshener and very cost effective.
* Essential oils can also be applied topically. Essential oils are fat soluble. Due to their chemical compound they are readily absorbed and enter the bloodstream when they are applied directly. Since they are readily absorbed into the bloodstream this is a huge thing when it comes to quality of essential oil, you want it to be a very high quality since its going into your bloodstream. The most universal place to put the oils is the bottom of the feet. Another huge method for applying oils is using a carrier oil such as fractionated coconut oil, this allows for dilution and prevention of evaporation. Using a carrier oil before you apply an oil does slow down the absorption process. When applying the oil if you message the affected area before application, the absorption is enhanced by increasing the blood flow to the area. Applying oils with a carrier oil such as fractionated coconut oil and then massaging the skin or applying heat or moist compress allows the oil to drive deeper into the tissue.
Carrier oils: Fractionated coconut oil, virgin coconut oil, jojoba oil, grapeseed oil, almond oil, avocado oil, and extra virgin olive oil.
A recommended ratio for dilution as found in the book, "The Essential Life 4th Edition" is:
Babies 0.3% dilution (1 drop to 1 TB)
Children 1.0% dilution (1 drop to 1 tsp.)
Adults 2.0-4.0% dilution (3-6 drops to 1 tsp.)

When using oils don't forget that one drop of essential oil is obtained from a large amount of plant material.
